Where does the time go?

I cannot believe how quickly this summer is flying by ... it seems just like yesterday that the kids were just getting out of school and I was counting down the days until Carrie and Jeannie arrived for my first triathlon!

It has been an absolute WHIRLWIND since then, and today was the very first day I was able to take time to get caught up on a million and one things that have been neglected ... mainly, my house. Gosh, my poor house. It was a total disaster area - declared by the Governor of Wisconsin and President and everything ...

During the week, things are just so busy, I tend to just pile things on my desk to deal with at a later time. When it gets to the point where the stuff on my desk blocks my view to my monitor, I know that "later time" is now. LOL

After breakfast of homemade pumpkin waffles (chocolate chip pancakes for my girl), we attacked the house. We went from room to room together, and then the kids were responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms. My daughter's bedroom was the worst - I cannot believe my sweet darling princess is such a little piggy when it comes to messy bedrooms. I was tempted to take a photo for you, but knew it would scar her for life to have it posted online. LOL

After the house was cleaned, the kids wanted to go for a bike ride, so we rode to the Hank Aaron State Trail, and knocked out 12 miles roundtrip in under an hour. I was so impressed with the kids, but it may have been the promise of gelatto at Paciugo that kept them going :)

When we got back from the ride, the kids wanted to go to the gym (they're fitness crazy!) so off we went. My daughter went into her mini muscle camp class in the kid's gym and my son asked me to run with him around the track. I'm so proud to share that my son ran his first continuous 5K today! For a kid that could barely run the mile in gym class last school year, this is amazing!! He is well on his way to the Rock 'n' Roll Chicago Half-Marathon with me next year!

Our day of fitness didn't end there - we took a detour and did a little back to school shopping, then spent the rest of the afternoon at the city aquatic center. It was beastly hot and humid, and the pool was the perfect fix. I sat poolside and caught up on my reading while the kids played with their friends. I didn't get in the pool - I seriously need a new swimming suit because my old one is literally falling off me as it's too big. I really dread swimsuit shopping, but will force myself to go tomorrow as it's supposed to get into the upper 90s and will be the hottest day of the year so far - they've already posted severe weather alerts for the heat and humidity (great time for my 3-year old central air to be broken, yeah?)

I hope everyone had a great day - be sure to check by tomorrow for our amazing Former Fat Girl of the Week! She is sure to impress, inspire, and motivate you!

xo,

I cannot imagine a greater gift for you to give your children than an active lifestyle. It doesn't even have to be about
"exercise"... just going, doing, being, and not spending life in the house. I don't think it is about one problem or another (video games vs. TV), but just how life flows. A balance of relaxation, activity, and adventure.

I need a new swimsuit too! I usually do online ordering because up here in Spokane they are in stores for about a month and disappear quickly because the winter clothes move in. July is not winter JCPenny!! Anyway. Good luck with the swimsuit thing!
